Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders, a cricket franchise abbreviated as
KKR, is representing Kolkata in IPL. The team is owned by Red Chillies
Entertainment of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan in a partnership with Mehta
Group that is owned by actress Juhi chawla and her husband Jay Mehta.
In 2008, BCCI launched auction of eight different cricket
franchises in Mumbai where eight teams representing different Indian Cities
were brought for auction in February 2008. A team from city Kolkata was brought
for auction and the bid was won by the Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s company
Red Chillies Entertainment in partnership with Mehta Group for $75.09 million.
Currently the captain of the team is Gautam Gambhir and the
team is coached by Trevor Bayliss, who is a former Australian cricketer. Wasim
Akram is the bowling consultant and instructor of the team. Initially Saurav
Ganguly was the team’s captain and an Icon Player named Bengal Tiger, Dada of
the team for the first three seasons of IPL. The team KKR won first title of
champion of IPL in 2012 by defeating CSK by 5 wicketsat their home ground
Chennai.
The official theme and slogan of the team is Korbo, Lorbo,
Jeetbo Re (we will do it, fight for it). Purple and gold is its official
colors. While the current estimated brand value of KKR is $57.5 million in
2011. During the first three seasons the team performance was not satisfactory
and the team remained controversial and was not good at field. But later from
fourth season it emerged as a new one and played well and started its up
sloping on the performance graph. They won the IPL title for the first time in
2012. The leading batsman is Gautam Gambhir while the best bowler of the team
is Laksjmipathy Balaji. Eden Gardens is the home of Kolkata Knight Riders that
is the largest Indian stadium also included among one of the largest stadiums
of the Asia.
KKR made a good start in 2008, the first season of IPL. They
won 6 out of 14 matches where one match abandoned due to rain. KKR won their
first match against RCB by 140 runs and second against Deccan charges by 5
wickets. But later they had to face failure in four big matches. They could not
qualify for semifinal. The next season in 2009 proved worst for the team as
they had to face defeat in 10 out of 13 matches and drooped at bottom in team
performance chart. They gave a good start in next season of IPL 2010 by winning
two successive matches. This season they made 7 wins and 7 lose by the
percentage of 50%. With a slight improvement they ended up the season by
dropping at 6 out of eight teams.
2011 was a bit better year for the KKR as it was a mixture
of victory and defeat. They won 8 matches and lost 7 and reached the Play offs,
they ended the season by placing at number 4. They also qualified Champions
League T20 2011. The team proved themselves during the IPL season in 2012 by
winning 12 out of 17 matches, one match abandoned due to rain. KKR were the
champions of year 2012 IPL and qualified for 2012 Champions League T20.
Finnish multinational communication corporation- Nokia is
the official brand ambassador of the team KKR and Reebok is their official
appeal sponsor. KKR have 18 highest sponsors among all teams some of the
sponsor include SB Nation. Kitkat, Dish TV. And associate sponsors include
Amity University, Coca Kola, Gitanjali Group and Doublemint.
Team main players include Sourav Ganguly. Chris Gayle, David
Hussey, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Angelo Mathews, Wicket keeper and batsman Bredon
McCullum, Wriddhiman Saha. The leading bowlers include Shane Bond, Ishant
Sherma, Ashok Dinda, Ajit Agerker and Muhali Karthik. in 2012 the team KKR
released four players from the team Iresh Saxena, Chirag Jani, Sanju Samson and

Pune Warriors
This franchise of cricket team playing under IPL is
representing the Indian city Pune. The franchise is one of the two newly added
franchises of the IPL that was founded in 2010 and played 2011 matches under
IPL as their first season. Subrata Roy of Sahara Group won the bid from
Videocon Group and purchased the franchise for 170.2 million Indian rupees.
Angelo Mathews is the team captain and Allan Donald is the
head coach of the team. Allan Donald is former South African Pacer and
currently bowling coach of South Africa. As the name of the team Warriors so
it’s the logo has spear wielding warrior riding a stallion. Initially the name
of the franchise was Sahara Pune Warriors later it changed to Pune Warriors
India. They signed with Adidas as their official sponsor for the coming
seasons. While TVS Motors were their proper brand sponsor. The other sponsors
included Pepsi, Playup, Royal Challenge, Amity University, Valvoline and
Finolex. The color assigned to the team is Turquoise blue and silver.
For their first season in 2011 Pune Warriors signed top
players including Yuvraj Singh, Robbin Uthappa, Jesse Ryder, Angelo Mathews,
Murali Kartik, Graeme Smith, Ashish Nehra and also have signed number of top
uncapped players of Indian different clubs and franchises that is Abhishek
Jhunjhunwala, Mohnish Mishra, Kamran Khan and Mithun Minhas. The team played a successful
season of IPL 2011 under the captaincy of Yuvraj Singh.
At the start of the fifth season of IPL in 2012 Sahara
decided to withdraw their Pune Warriors from season 2012 just hour before when
the auction was about to start. But later Subrata Roy said that Saurav Ganguly
will be asked for reconcialliation, later he announced that Yuvraj Singh would
be replaced. The deadlocks were still between BCCI and Sahara group. But later
on February 2012, the discussion ended up with a positive result and they
announced that Pune Warriors will play the season 2012 of IPL.
It was decided by disbanding of Kochi Tuskers Kerala that
each team will play with remaining eight teams twice, once at home ground and
once at away so the each team will play 16 total matches. The first match was
considered as a battle between two friends Saurav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar
from the team Mumbai Indians. Pune warriors won the match by 29 runs. PW played
total 16 matches but won only 4 and lost 12 and retained their position at 9
out of 9 teams.
The players currently playing with PW are Robin
Uthappa, Yuvraj Singh, Angelo Mathews, Kane Richarson, Ajantha Mendis, Abhishek
Nayar, Ashok Dinda, Micheal Clarke, Marlon Samuels, Luke Wright, Wayne Parnell,
Rahul Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
